DISCOVERY BAY MARINA CLOSURE

Discovery Bay Marina Club has announced it will cease to offer marina services on 31st December 2018. With only 115 days notice to vacate, more than 200 vessels are being forced to seek alternative shelter in a city facing a 4000+ mooring deficit.

Media reports state this is an unreasonable and unsafe demand from Hong Kong Resorts International (HKRI), owners of the marina.

The marina is an important piece of community infrastructure and its closure impacts more than 180 families, some of who rely on their boats as a place to stay. Sporting clubs rely on marina infrastructure to function and a unique ecosystem will be disrupted by this long-overdue maintenance.

The closure also marks a significant financial loss for those who have invested in vessels either moored at the club or housed on the hard stand. HKRI have, for many years, marketed the marina and its live-a-board lifestyle to attract investors. These investors have been let down and face multi-million dollar losSes.

This site has been created to give interested parties information about the closure, plus how it impacts families and the future of Hong Kong.
